Why Creating A Network
(Association, Alliance, or Institute)
Is EASIER and SMARTER Than
Your Service-Based Business
Date: March 31, 2010 This call has ended, but you can still register to receive the recording. Time: Noon (Pacific), 1 pm (Mountain), 2 pm (Central), 3 pm (Eastern)
Join Sheri McConnell, CEO of two global networks, on this brand new call where she zeros in on the reasons the membership-based business model is EASIER and SMARTER than almost all business models that exist. Sheri has been running associations and institutes for over 10 years while raising her four children ages 15 to 4. Sheri’s passion is helping women use smart business models so they have security, more time, and freedom. Ready to play bigger and get bigger results? Oh, and by the way, playing bigger does NOT mean playing harder.
Call in and listen live as Sheri shares:
Why your business model (service-based) is more complicated and takes far longer to get off the ground than the membership-based business model (Using Sheri’s method!)
The 5 “laws” of the membership-based business (not talking about continuity either–she will explain) that allow you to attract members, partners, and opportunities faster than all other business models
The “business strategy” that allows you to comfortably reach six-figures (and much more!) in first 12 months of operating your business
Why CONTENT should never be the reason members join
It has been a great week here… we have been working on creative projects more than normal which is a blast because I usually only get to do that about 25% of the time. We just finished a brand new Smart Women Business and Marketing Planner for the Smart Women’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Learning that we will launch to the public next week. Nothing exists on the market like it right now for female entrepreneurs. And we also finished a brand new free “map” of 25 steps that you should take during the entrepreneurial journey. It will also be available during the next week, so stay tuned and make sure to plug into the website for the latest announcements. Oh, AND I am putting the final touches on the next book, Smart Women Know Their WHY–The Guide for Discovering Your Life Purpose While Owning a Business So You Can Create Positive Change In the World (and Make Big Profits!) due out in June.

And finally, we have a brand new article for you this week called the “Five Types of Smart Women” for those of you who market to or serve women. Enjoy!
To your success,
Sheri McConnell
CEO of the Smart Women’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Learning
Creating the Five Types of Smart Women is important and personal work to me because as women, we each have a huge responsibility to inspire younger generations to “practice awareness”. As you read through the five types of smart women below, hopefully you will see a little or even a lot of yourself in each type. My goal with the Smart Women Types is twofold: one, you can use them as a tool for self growth and two, you can use them to have a better understanding of how to market to each of these types of women in your own businesses.
Type One “Encourager”
The first type of Smart Woman is the encourager. She spends most of her time helping others accomplish their goals. She loves to share resources and actually refuels the more she shares them. The encourager also feels validated each time someone experiences growth from her help. She needs to be cautious of burn out and propping others up too much.
Type Two “The Big Thinker”
The second type of Smart Woman is the big thinker. She spends most of her time thinking and planning the big picture. She offers inspiration to those who are detail oriented and loves to be part of a movement. She is extremely productive when she takes time to see the moving parts. She needs to be cautious of overwhelm and not following through on her ideas.
Type Three “The Manager”
The third type of Smart Woman is the manager. She spends most of her time managing projects and people. She is in the zone when she can pull all the right resources together to complete a project on time and in an efficient manner. She needs to be cautious of micromanaging her team and not empowering them to come up with better solutions on their own. She should also be cautious of burnout.
Type Four “The Implementor”
The fourth type of Smart Woman is the implementer. The implementer is at her best when she can hop from one project to another and be a part of the end results. She would rather be in the fast moving thick of things than in start up. She needs to be cautious of not forgetting about low hanging fruit in her business before moving onto next project. She also needs to make sure she enjoys the journey.
Type Five “The Connector”
The fifth type of Smart Woman is the connector. The connector is at her best when she can bring people together and match strengths with other peoples weaknesses. She thrives when she is able to be social and resourceful at the same time. She is often looked at as the go to “people” person. She, like the encourager needs to be cautious that the majority of her time is not spent propping others up. She struggles when others disapprove of her.
To read about the five types in detail including all the red flags to look out for and how to grow into balancing all the types within yourself, make sure to pick up a copy of Smart Women Know Their Why in June when it is released.

I am so excited about the workshop I am doing for you on April 20th. Are you coming? If you are stuck in the Create stage of putting your own network (or association, alliance, or institute) together, then you MUST find a way to join me. This WORKshop is truly that, a long day of productivity, so you can return home and start leading others, inspiring them, and making money. We are keeping it small so I can work with you so you can go home with your complete “plan” and hand it over to your web designer. And yes, I give you a list of web designers too. Check out all the details here: http://www.gia-connect.com/workshop Note: Due to time constrains and prior commitments, I will not be offering a live version of this workshop ever again.

How are you doing this week? It has been a fun week with lots of creative projects to work on and amazing clients to work with. And because I have been so busy, I made sure to just STOP yesterday and take the rest of the day off and spend it with the kiddos giving them hugs. Seriously. I just stopped.
Why? Because I like to give the kiddos more of my time before I go out of town. I leave for a quick drive to Austin on Saturday to hang out with Suzanne Falter Barnes’s at her event. I will hook up with Alexis Martin Neely again (mwah) and then I will finally get to meet Andrea J. Lee after all these years of partnering with each other on projects. Then Sunday morning, I will head directly to the airport and fly to Los Angeles, CA because I have a photo shoot on Monday with Lesley Bohm for the next book and then I will spend time with Ali Brown and her Platinum group for a few days and then finally I will spend the last day with a group of millionaire business women that I mastermind with. Whew! I promise to take lots of pictures and learn lots of new things to pass on to you when I return.
OK, so why am I telling you all this?
Because I want to discuss Yin and Yang. I encourage my clients to squeeze as much ROI out of the business as possible, like me packing everything I can into the four days of travel above. I mean if I have to be away from my kids, it has to be worth it, right. But trust me, I am smart enough (most of the time!) to know that I also need to “Just Be” too. Example: I took a bubble bath at 2 pm a few days ago when my throat was starting to get a little itchy. I had deadlines and to do’s that would make a grown man cry. OK, not that bad… just depends on the man I guess. The point is, I want you to be a leader to your customers, to your family, to your team. So you need to have that “make it happen energy” and then you also need to take care of yourself and go with nature’s rhythms. Just a reminder that if you don’t hustle here and there, you won’t be successful. And on the flip side, if you don’t completely unplug here and there, you won’t be successful.
Brand New: Create Your Own Network Spring Workshop
Registration is now open for a brand new workshop on April 20th. Check out all the details here: http://www.gia-connect.com/workshop I know you hear it all the time, but if you are in the start up stage of building your network (meaning you aren’t making at least high five figures yet with it), then you need to be at this workshop. It is affordable and intense and you will get it created quickly.
To your success,
Sheri McConnell
CEO of the Smart Women’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Learning
My clients always move faster when I hold their hand through my Blueprint process below. When clients aren’t able to work with me one-on-one, they get stuck in the “Create” column, do it wrong, and have a hard time getting to launch (and becoming profitable!)
In this one day workshop, I will take you through my entire “Create” process and you will document all your hard work in our “GIA Workshop Notebook”. This notebook will be your physical strategic plan when you return to your office and you will use it to delegate and complete the launch process. This is a BRAND NEW workbook that allows you to brainstorm and decide on each step before moving to the next step.
This is what we will work on during
the workshop on April 20th:
1)Creating Your Name and Your Tagline
I will work with you to help you create your name. This IS the most important step and half the time my clients come to a screeching halt with this one step. I will teach you my formula for naming that will allow you to create a name the search engines love and your future members get! Doing this step correctly can make or break your association… for instance, all of my associations were able to climb to number two on Google and never go lower than seven! I will also share my entity structure resources so you can return home and officially trademark your name and move forward with selecting a corporate structure.
2) Choosing Your URL
We will brainstorm a number of possible URLs so you can hit the ground running when you return home. I will also tell you which URL endings to buy and which ones to ignore.
3) Mapping Out Your Benefits Package
This is my favorite part! I willteach you how to create a scalable membership package meaning it is as easy to serve 50 people as it is 5000 people. This step is key to your success because we want to leverage as many members as possible in your industry to catapult your success.
4) Deciding On Your Pricing
After we map out your benefits, I will work with you on determining the best pricing based on cost to deliver your benefits and the industry norms. This step is often complicated when my clients don’t have my help. They also overlook what I call the “red flags” in the benefits package that can cost too much time and money to provide.
5) Mapping Out Expert Panel and Potential Joint Venture Partners and Vendors
I will work with you in small groups to help you brainstorm key players in your industry and we will also talk about how you should best approach them to use your association leverage.
6) Mapping Out Your Marketing Calendar for the Rest of 2010
Before you leave the workshop, we will plan out your prelaunch and launch dates as well as your future marketing activities and when you will do them. You will receive copies of my graphic tools to complete this process: Marketing Map, Conversion Map, and the Success Blueprint Map.
7) Brainstorm Additional Revenue Streams
And last, before you head up to your room to lay your head on your pillow after our long productive day, we will brainstorm additional revenues streams. I will walk you through the many possibilities and then work in small groups with you based on which revenue stream you chose to focus on next. That way you have a plan right after you launch your association for the next project to work on.
